Chaba plan to provide Shimla with 10 MLD of water

Since the Chaba water system was restored, Shimla would get an extra 10 MLD of water during the summer months. The project had been out of commission for a few months.

The program was started in 2019, but the heavy rains that fell during the previous monsoon season caused damage. The rehabilitation project that the Shimla Jal Prabhandhan Nigam (SJPNL) started is now finished.

During the summer, when the Gumma project experienced a water deficit, the Sutlej was used to raise roughly 10 MLD of water, which was then provided to Gumma by a 45-mm water conduit. Water is provided to Shimla from Gumma.

Water from the Chaba system would be utilized as a supplemental arrangement, according to PP Sharma, AGM (Water), SJPNL. If there was a scarcity of water from the Giri and Gumma systems, he claimed, water from the scheme would be utilized.

“The two plans currently have enough water in them. In the event of a water scarcity, the supply of water from Chaba would be boosted, he said.

He claimed that efforts were being made to guarantee that Shimla will always have access to clean drinking water throughout the summer.
