Chautala bahus and father-in-law are matched in Hisar

In the next Lok Sabha elections, the Hisar parliamentary seat will pit “sasur” against “bahus.”

The family rivalry is expected to be exposed in the Hisar election scenario as the JJP is fielding Naina Chautala and Sunaina Chautala, another “bahu” of the Devi Lal clan, is being floated as the INLD candidate against Ranjit Singh of the BJP.

Prior to other party contenders for the Hisar seat, the BJP selected Ranjit Singh, an Independent MLA and former Haryana minister and the late Deputy Prime Minister Devi Lal’s son, as its candidate. In an attempt to inject some intrigue into the election contest, the JJP today announced Naina, the incumbent Badhra MLA and daughter-in-law of Om Prakash Chautala, the brother of former Chief Minister Ranjit Singh, as the party’s candidate.

The expected arrival of Sunaina Chautala, nevertheless, is expected to liven up the election atmosphere in Hisar. Sunaina, the spouse of Ravi Chautala, the oldest son of Devi Lal, Pratap Chautala, is going up against “bhabhi” (Naina) and “sasur” (Ranjit Singh). Congress has not yet selected a candidate.

Naina Chautala, the mother of former Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala and wife of JJP founder Ajay Chautala, is recognized for organizing statewide “hari chunari chaupals” to raise women’s understanding of politics.
