Choudary Lal Singh of the Congress was arrested for criminal intimidation and slander on election eve

According to an official on Thursday, Choudhary Lal Singh, the Congress candidate, has been the subject of a formal complaint under many sections of the Indian Penal Code for allegedly misbehaving with a police team in the Kathua area of Jammu and Kashmir two days ago.

Sub-Inspector Swarn Singh Manhas, the in-charge police post of Industrial Estate Kathua, filed a written complaint, which led to the filing of a FIR against Singh on Tuesday at the Kathua police station, according to the official.

Sections 353 (obstructing the duty of a public servant by assault or use of criminal force), 500 (punishment for defamation), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace), and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) were among the four sections of the IPC that he said were included in the FIR.

The first round of elections in the Udhampur parliamentary seat, which includes Kathua, will determine the destiny of Singh, Union Minister Jitendra Singh, and eleven other candidates on Friday.

According to the police official’s complaint, on April 16, during the candidate’s road show in Kathua, he began yelling at him and other deployed police officials with the “intention to defame” them in public while he and the other officials were carrying out their official duties.

“He has purposefully used unparliamentary language and attacked us in public, harming both the police organization and my image. In addition, he bullied me illegally, defamed me, threatened me, and obstructed my ability to perform my legal obligations. Therefore, please take cognizance of this matter, as asked,” the officer said, citing the FIR.
