City chicken prices soar as a result of poor production

Coimbatore: Due to the temperature and poor output, chicken prices have skyrocketed in the city.
According to Swamy Kannan, secretary of the TN Broiler Co-ordinate Committee in Palladam, summer productivity is often poor since the birds eat less and drink more water.

Thus, a chicken won’t put on weight. In addition, the heatwave has caused the typical death rate of 5% to increase to 10% at the same time, he said.
According to him, precautionary steps are being taken to stabilize the death rate, such as installing water sprinklers and conducting ongoing surveillance.

In the last several weeks, the price per kilogram has increased by 110–120.
In contrast to prior summers, this one has seen a 130 percent rise in the wholesale price. In several locations, the selling price has exceeded $250 per kilogram. Poultry farms have raised output to keep up with demand. According to poultry breeders, in order to satisfy demand, an additional twenty chicks are added to the typical 100 that are reared.
Nevertheless, because the avian flu epidemic in Kerala is limited to ducks, it has not affected the local market.
In contrast to previous years, the supply to Kerala, which was anticipated to have grown by 20% this summer, is unchanged, according to the proprietor of a chicken farm.
Every day, more than 2 lakh kg of chicken are shipped to Kerala, while more than 8 lakh kg are provided locally.
The amount supplied to Kerala somewhat rises in the summer. Poultry owners claim that there has been no such rise this year.
The price of chicks has increased, particularly those shipped to Kerala, in contrast to regular days, according to Divakaran, the owner of a private hatchery in Coimbatore. Every week, we send around 50,000 chicks to Kerala. It has never gone beyond 55, and for the last four months, it has remained at that same price without fail. The spread of the virus has made it doubtful if the stock can be increased, but the present supply will not change. Based on the effects of the virus, a little adjustment to the tariff might be anticipated in the following weeks.
