Cold Wave and Thick Fog Snare Delhi and Neighboring States; Noida and Greater Noida Schools Closed Until January 6

The national capital of Delhi continued to see bone-chillingly low temperatures, with the mercury falling to 7.4 degrees Celsius. On Wednesday, however, the city was once again blanketed in thick fog, which caused at least 26 trains to run late.

It is said that early on Tuesday, the temperature in the Delhi Ridge region was the lowest of the year. In order to stay warm in this very cold winter, people have been observed sitting around bonfires across the national capital and its surrounding districts.

In the meanwhile, security and armed defense troops kept up their early-morning drills in preparation for the Republic Day parade.

The central regions of Uttar Pradesh, south Assam, Tripura, north and west Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, and neighboring east and west Rajasthan were all covered in moderate to deep fog, according to the India Meteorological Department.

NEWEST CHANGES

At least 26 trains are running late as they reach Delhi because of the fog.

People in the nation’s capital had to battle a cold wave and heavy fog as the temperature dropped even lower to 7.4 degrees Celsius.

According to reports, Tuesday’s temperature in the Delhi Ridge region was the lowest of the season.

The nation’s capital was still engulfed in layers of fog, which also interfered with rail traffic, particularly that which was traveling through or near Delhi.

The central regions of Uttar Pradesh, south Assam, Tripura, north and north Rajasthan, west Madhya Pradesh bordering east Rajasthan, and Punjab were all covered in moderate to deep fog, according to the IMD.

In several places, the late-evening fog cover on Tuesday night significantly reduced visibility; the lowest visibility was recorded at 25 meters in Bareilly, UP.

Owing to the cold wave, the administrations of Noida and Greater Noida in Uttar Pradesh ordered that schools for kids up to class 8 be closed till January 6.

The national capital’s air quality index (AQI) was still classified as “very poor” on Wednesday. On Tuesday, the AQI for Delhi was 346.

The daytime temperatures in many divisions like as Kanpur, Bareilly, Moradabad, Ayodhya, Lucknow, Agra, and Meerut stayed well below the average range.

In the meantime, a thin coating of ice formed over Srinagar, Kashmir’s Dal Lake due to chilly temperatures and thick fog.

The houseboat residents of the lake found it difficult to break through the coating of ice as they roved the boats in the direction of the banks. The very low temperatures have also caused water supply pipes to freeze in a number of Kashmiri locations.
