Concerning dog bite instances, residents of Dwarka Sector 22 are alarmed

In recent years, there has been an increase in dog bite incidences in Delhi, which has put inhabitants at risk. According to reports, in the last six months, dog bite cases have been reported at Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi and Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital in Delhi, with 29,698 and 18,183 instances, respectively.

In addition, a WHO research states that 36% of rabies-related fatalities worldwide occur in India. Dog bites are a problem that DDA Dwarka 22 residents are also dealing with since fresh instances are recorded every other day. People in the community are concerned about these instances, especially those who stroll often in parks and neighborhoods. Residents, frustrated and feeling powerless because of these dogs’ ongoing annoyance, say they are afraid to go outside.

One of the society’s residents said, “We are always scared to go out,” and she related how she was attacked by a dog while hanging laundry on the terrace. The community has become unpredictable and anxious as a result of these episodes, which ranged in intensity.

The goal of this discussion is to raise awareness and promote peaceful coexistence between dogs and people, not to argue for or against animals or humans. It’s time to deal with this problem head-on.

The park is a popular spot for morning and evening walks for residents of Sadbhavna Apartments, Chitrakoot Apartments, Janki Apartments, DGS Apartments, and Ranjeet Vihar Apartments. However, many of them now choose to stay out of the park entirely owing to an increase in dog attack cases. Seniors who have avoided going to the park because they are afraid they could run across dangerous dogs are becoming more concerned. Even though the municipal corporation was made aware of the issue, nothing has been done about it as of yet.

Senior BJP politician Vijay Goel established a website in February 2024 that is devoted to discussing the problem of stray dogs around the nation and offering assistance to those who have been harmed by them.

Goel, a former Union minister, launched the portal as a digital resource for those impacted by stray dog attacks, highlighting the critical need for coordinated action. He emphasized the need of increasing public knowledge of the problems associated with stray dogs and providing access to information and remedies.
