Congress will soon make its position on AAP vs. the Center’s Ordinance Regarding Delhi Services clear

Several non-BJP parties have come out in favour of Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), but Congress has not yet made clear where it stands on whether to assist AAP in its battle against the Center’s legislation on Delhi services.

Arvind Kejriwal, the leader of the AAP and Delhi’s chief minister, has met with the leaders of the CPI(M), Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Janata Dal (United), Trinamool Congress, Bharat Rashtra Samithi, Shiv Sena (UT), and other groups in recent days and has garnered support from a number of these organisations.

He will also meet with the chief ministers of Jharkhand and Tamil Nadu, MK Stalin and Hemant Soren.

According to a report in NDTV, Kejriwal has kept a busy schedule over the past two weeks, meeting with the chief executives of Bihar, West Bengal, Telangana, the Nationalist Congress Party, and the Shiv Sena to ask for their support in opposing the Centre’s Bill in Parliament, specifically in the Rajya Sabha.

The Bill, which calls for a constitutional change, would take the place of the ordinance that the Centre had filed to defy the Supreme Court’s ruling giving the Delhi Government authority over postings and transfers of officials in the nation’s capital.

In order to defeat the Bill in the Rajya Sabha, the cooperation of the Congress is essential.

It is a difficult decision for the Congress. AAP and the Congress have been at odds for years; the Congress claims that AAP is eroding its support base, promoting soft Hindutva, and disseminating false information about the Congress, while AAP has taken on the Congress in states like Gujarat, Punjab, and Delhi. The Congress’s Punjab and Delhi chapters have particularly warned the party’s top brass to avoid endorsing AAP and harming the Congress’s objectives.

According to the story, which cited sources, Congress will shortly make known its view.
