Congressman Pramod Tiwari responded to Amit Shah’s statement that he “never opposed caste-census” by saying, “Centre should do it”

Congress leader Pramod Tiwari stated on Saturday that the Centre should conduct a caste-based census at the all-India level as it is also one of the demands of the Congress and INDIA bloc, following Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s statement the previous day that the BJP had never opposed such a census.

“It should be done by them (the central government). It was done by the Bihar government. The Women’s Reservation Bill, which was enacted, may or might not go into effect in ten or fifteen years. There should be a census based on caste. Speaking to ANI, the Congress Rajya Sabha MP said, “This is what the Congress and people of INDIA alliance are saying.”

The Bharatiya Janata Party has never opposed a caste-based census, according to Shah, who made this statement earlier on Friday after releasing the party’s platform for the Chhattisgarh Assembly elections in Raipur. The party will make a decision on the matter following internal deliberations.

“We don’t engage in vote-buying appeasement politics. Following internal party talks, we will make the proper choice about the caste census. The BJP has never been against a caste census, but choices must be made after careful consideration, Shah told reporters in Raipur.

Meanwhile, BJP politician and former Union minister Ravi Shankar Prasad criticized Congress leader Rahul Gandhi at a news conference on the caste-based census on Friday in Bhopal, claiming he hasn’t done enough research on the subject.

“Rahul Gandhi has been discussing the census based on caste. Digvijaya Singh and Kamal Nath, two prominent members of the Congress, are singing the same song and following in his footsteps. Rahul Gandhi has a tendency to get fixated on a single problem when someone offers him a chit. His style of politics is that. He had previously received such chits for Savarkar and Rafale, and now Nitish Kumar had given him the chit about the caste-based census, he claimed.

Up to 80 of the party’s MPs, the BJP leader said, were from lower socioeconomic groups.

“The BJP has the highest proportion of MLAs who are from the very backward and OBC categories. As an OBC, the prime minister is one himself. The nation of India chose Droupadi Murmu as its first Adivasi president. The BJP speaker said, “A Dalit, Ramnath Kovind was also a previous President.

Following the Bihar government’s October announcement of the results of the first caste-based census, calls for an Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) national exercise have emerged.

The “lack of adequate representation of OBCs” in secretary-level positions at the Center has been the target of criticism from Congress leader Rahul Gandhi directed at the BJP.
