Criminal in Samba sought in 17 crimes apprehended

In the Samba area, a hardened criminal who was sought in more than a dozen cases—including drug sales and murder attempts—was taken into custody.

According to a police spokeswoman, Kapil Sharma, also known as Jimmy, a resident of Jammu, was taken into custody from the Bari Brahmana police station as part of the ongoing investigation into a case that was recently filed after the seizure of an illicit drug rehabilitation facility in Birpur.

He has been charged by the police with violating Sections 420, 323, 342, and 506 of the IPC.

The report that prompted the Bari Brahmana Police Station to open the investigation claimed that the drug rehabilitation center was being fraudulently operated and that there was constant violence, unlawful detention, and deception.

Up to fifteen violent victims were freed from the center and brought back to their homes. An officer said that Sharma, who turned out to be the primary culprit in the case, had escaped from custody and was running away. According to the source, Monday’s arrest of the accused was the result of intense police work.

Subsequent inquiries showed that, during the previous several years, he had been the subject of 17 FIRs against him at various police stations in the districts of Samba and Jammu for severe offenses such drug dealing, illegal weapon carrying, and murder attempt.
