Delhi’s Thick Fog Causes Multiple Flight Delays; Passengers Warned

New Delhi: According to the India Meteorological Department, a layer of thick fog was seen over the Delhi-NCR area on Tuesday morning, when the temperature in the nation’s capital fell to about 7 degrees.

Images taken in the morning from Sarai Kale Khan, AIIMS, Safdarjung, Anand Vihar, and India Gate in Delhi revealed them to be completely covered in thick fog with little visibility.

On Tuesday night, as the cold wave became stronger, residents of the nation’s capital sought safety in night shelters located across the city.

Satellite photos that showed a layer of fog spreading across Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh were issued by the IMD this morning.

Images from Moradabad, Kanpur, in Uttar Pradesh, revealed a dense layer of fog that reduced vision to almost nothing.

“The fog makes it hard to see the road. In contrast to normal, there aren’t any rides yet. Due to the limited visibility and very chilly weather, it is dangerous to ride at this hour, according to a Moradabad rickshaw driver.

The area’s night security guard said that the area’s cold and fog make working at night more challenging.

“It’s freezing outside, and I can’t see anything right now due to fog.” It’s incredibly hard for me to work at night because of this cold,” the watchman said.

Along the roads and alleys, people could be seen gathering around bonfires to stay warm in the bitter weather.

According to statistics from the Delhi Airport Flight Information Display System on Tuesday morning, there were delays in arrivals and departures for around thirty planes, including foreign ones, at the Delhi airport because of heavy fog.

According to the sources, there is a possibility that additional flights throughout the day would be impacted by the fog conditions.

In the meanwhile, the Delhi airport sent the following passenger caution this morning: “Flights that are not CAT III compliant may get affected while landing and takeoffs continue at Delhi Airport.” If passengers need up-to-date flight information, they should get in touch with the relevant airline.”

The Delhi airport authorities introduced the CAT-III Instrument Landing technology (ILS) as an anti-fog landing technology to aid in landings under limited runway visibility.

The national capital’s thick fog might have negative effects on people’s health, the IMD said.

“Dense fog contains particulate matter and other pollutants and in case exposed it gets lodged in the lungs, clogging them and decreasing their functional capacity which increases episodes of wheezing, coughing and shortness of breath,” IMD said in a statement on Monday.

The IMD announcement went on to say that the fog conditions can have an irritating effect on the eye’s membranes, which might lead to several infections and cause swelling or redness in the affected eye.
