Dibrugarh Lok Sabha seat will see a vote between Lurinjyoti Gogoi and Sarbananda Sonowal

Dibrugarh Lok Sabha seat: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has nominated Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal to challenge incumbent party MP and Union Minister Rameswar Teli, setting the ground for a titanic election contest in Assam’s Dibrugarh district.

The two-time MP, Teli, was first elected to the Lok Sabha in 2014. This time around, he has been turned down for a BJP ticket. He has served as an MLA twice. Dibrugarh was handed over to the Congress by ally Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP). Lurinjyoti Gogoi, the leader of the AJP, is anticipated to challenge Sonowal. It is anticipated that Gogoi and Sonowal would square off directly.

Sonowal, a member of the Rajya Sabha at the moment, was included on the initial list of 195 candidates for the Lok Sabha elections that the BJP released on Saturday.

“I appreciate PM Modi’s faith in me. We’re all going to win with him leading us. The minister of ports, shipping, and waterways, Ramesh Sonowal, said, “I am confident that the BJP will form the government for the third term with a massive mandate and the people’s love and support.”

Sonowal is a person who?
Before joining the BJP in 2011, Sonowal served as the head of the powerful All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) and as an AGP MLA from 2001 to 2004. He has served in the Lok Sabha twice, the Rajya Sabha once, and Assam three times as an MLA. His term as Assam Chief Minister ended in May 2021.

Assam Jaitya Parishad (AJP), which was founded in 2020 by the Assamese student groups AJYCP and AASU, has its strongesthold in Dibrugarh. Gogoi is a local lad, which works to his benefit. He finished his studies in Dibrugarh.

Concerning the Dibrugarh constituency
Over the last several decades, Dibrugarh’s voting trend has altered. Under Paban Singh Ghatowar’s leadership, the Congress had a stronghold there until 1999, winning the seat six times. Then, in 2004, Ghatowar lost the seat to AGP politician Sonowal, who is now a BJP leader. Congress made a comeback in 2009; however, Teli of the BJP won the seat again in 2014 and has remained the MP ever since. Teli defeated Ghatowar to win the seat with a margin of 3,64,566 votes. In Dibrugarh, 77.26% of voters cast ballots for the Lok Sabha in 2019. Margherita, Tinsukia, Digboi, Makum, Tinsukia, Chabua-Lahowal, Khowang, Duliajan, Tingkhong, and Naharkatia make up the constituency.
