Farmers assemble at the Shambhu border near Ambala as police fire tear gas shells

Farmers who were protesting were forced to disperse by the Haryana Police on Friday as they approached the barriers at the Shambhu border, which lies close to Ambala.

The farmers’ ‘Delhi Chalo’ march, which is on its fourth day, is demanding a legislative guarantee for the minimum support price (MSP) for crops. This new clash has arisen.

Punjabi farmers who are protesting have remained at the Shambhu and Khanauri borders, which separate the state from Haryana.

The first two days of the demonstration also saw altercations between farmers and Haryana Police officers.

The ‘Delhi Chalo’ march was called by the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha and the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) in an attempt to pressure the BJP-led federal government to accede to their demands.

Punjabi farmers started their Tuesday march towards the nation’s capital, but at the border crossings of Shambhu and Khanauri, security guards halted them.

In addition to a legal guarantee of MSP, the farmers are demanding the following: the reinstatement of the Land Acquisition Act, 2013, pensions for farmers and farm laborers, waivers of farm debt, police cases against them being dropped, “justice” for the victims of the violence in Lakhimpur Kheri in 2021, pensions for farmers and farm laborers, and compensation for the families of farmers who lost their lives during an earlier agitation in 2020–21.
