Farmers postpone their march to February 29th

The non-political Samyukta Kisan Morcha and the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM) stated on Friday that the next move in their agitation would be revealed on February 29, two days after postponing their Dilli Chalo march. A candlelight march is scheduled on this Saturday at the inter-state borders of Shambhu and Khanauri, which separate Punjab and Haryana, during the interim.

Intellectuals will also participate in lectures on the World Trade Organization on Sunday, according to Sarwan Singh Pandher, general secretary of the Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee.

Farmers protesting ‘black day’ action criticize Haryana Police and set fire to BJP politicians’ effigies
BJP politicians’ and large corporations’ effigies will be set ablaze on Monday. The non-political SKM and KMM will have separate gatherings the next day. On Wednesday, there will be a joint meeting, and on Thursday, the next course of action will be disclosed. “Until then, we won’t proceed,” he said.

Police in Haryana said they had withdrawn their plan to use the harsh National Security Act (NSA) against farmer leaders, softening their stance against them. However, farmers who want to join other demonstrators at the interstate boundary at Khanauri were dispersed by the deployment of tear gas in Hisar.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann of Punjab proposed a government position and <1 crore in compensation for the sister of farmer Shubhkaran Singh, who died during the protest. However, Singh’s family refused the offer, stating that they want justice. The family said that unless the individual who shot Shubhkaran dead is charged, they will not let his post-mortem.

Part of the SKM, the Bharti Kisan Union (Ekta Ugrahan) claimed to have protested Singh’s killing at 47 locations in Punjab.
