Food inspector is one of four people accused of stealing Rs. 20L worth of rations in Panipat

This was the discovery of a ration stock theft, including wheat, millet, and mustard oil valued at around Rs 20 lakh, after an investigation by a special team led by the Deputy Director of the Food and Supply Department. In response to the investigation report, the city police have filed a complaint alleging the theft of government rations against four individuals: computer programmer Srijan Bharti, depot holders Lalita and Anil Kumar, and food inspector Surender Saini.

Aaditya Kaushik, the District Food and Supply Controller (DFSC), filed a complaint in the case, citing Sections 408, 409, and 420 of the IPC in addition to Sections 10 and 7 of the Essential Commodities Act of 1955.

Ankit Mittal of Gandhi Colony reportedly submitted a complaint alleging that a food inspector had used his official ID on the point of sale (POS) machines of eight depot holders to steal a substantial stock of ration in collusion with Umesh, Lalita, and Anil, the owners of the ration depot. The complaint claimed that in 2021, 2022, and 2023, they had all stolen government ration supply.

After receiving the complaint, Deputy Director Meghna Kanwar’s team looked into the situation. The team discovered misuse of government ration stock throughout the inquiry and suggested filing charges against two officials and three depot holders.

District Food and Supply Controller (DFSC) Aditya Kaushik filed a complaint with the city police on Friday night based on the findings of the investigation conducted by the headquarters’ special team. According to Kaushik, the programmer had given the go-ahead for the food inspector to alter the stock using his ID on POS devices. A stock of 438 quintal millet, 326.65 quintal wheat, 2,400 liters of mustard oil, and 1,003 kg of sugar were discovered to have been stolen during the investigation.

According to him, it was discovered that food inspector Surender and programmer Srijan had caused the department to suffer a financial loss of Rs 20 lakh by using POS computers to display the stock zero in collusion with the depot holders.

According to him, Umesh, the depot holder, was arrested earlier on April 4 for stealing government food supplies. According to the DFSC, a thorough investigation into the issue will be carried out for the preceding years as well, and anyone implicated in corruption would face harsh consequences.
