Fraudster attempts to trick SI by acting as a high officer in Gurugram; arrested

A cybercriminal has been apprehended for attempting to fool a female sub-inspector (SI) by pretending to be Vikas Arora, the Commissioner of Police (CP) of Gurugram. With the CP’s photograph serving as his WhatsApp display picture (DP), the con artist messaged the sub-inspector.

In this instance, a first information report (FIR) has been filed at the Cyber East Police Station. Traffic Inspector (TI) Indu Bala filed a complaint alleging that on April 15, a WhatsApp message was received to her cell from an unidentified number. The account was linked to the DP of CP Vikas Arora from Gurugram.

The TI contacted the Police Commissioner’s office to verify the legitimacy of the request since the communication included questionable wording. After the communication was shown to be fraudulent throughout the inquiry, a formal complaint was filed.

Using the cellphone number he used to make the message, a senior police official said that they were attempting to apprehend the culprit.
