From September 1 to 8, the Union Government will hold Literacy Week; details inside

To commemorate International Literacy Day, the Union government has chosen to hold a literacy week from September 1 through September 8, 2023. The aim is to make all stakeholders, beneficiaries, and people aware of the ULLAS-Nav Bharat Saaksharta Karyakram. Numerous events would be part of the literacy week, which would be followed on September 8 by International Literacy Day celebrations.

Every person may take part in the week-long literacy drive to create a spirit of Kartavyabodh and Janbhagidari. This vision would contribute to the system’s popularization and the achievement of the goal of making India completely literate. According to the official announcement, “another main objective will be to increase the number of registrations for volunteers and learners on the ULLAS mobile app.”

Students from government-funded or -aided schools, NVS, KVS, CBSE-affiliated schools, HEIs (Technical institutions/ Degree colleges) under a University/AICTE, Teacher Training Institutions under NCTE, Neo-literates, NYKS, NCC, Gram Panchayats, Farmers, Women, Retired Employees, etc. The campaign is open to retired employees, ICDS/One Stop Centers, members of school management committees, non-literates, etc.

LITERACY WEEK: FULL CALENDAR

District Education Officers and the District Literacy Mission Authority will meet on September 1 to discuss ULLAS-Nav Bharat Saaksharta Karyakram.

Meetings on ULLAS – Nav Bharat Saaksharta Karyakram will be held in Gram Panchayats on September 2, 2023, with participation from Panchayat Raj Institutions (PRIs).

3.9.2023: Cycle Rallies, Rallies, Prabhat Ferries, Nukkad Nataks, etc. by students and teachers promoting ULLAS – Nav Bharat Saksharta Karyakram with banners and placards.

Conferences, workshops, and seminars on ULLAS – Nav Bharat Saksharta Karyakram will be held on September 4, 2023.

Short films and radio jingles on September 5, 2023.

On September 6, 2023, awareness will be spread via flyers, posters, and other displays in public spaces.

September 7, 2023: Drives by stakeholders to promote cleanliness, plant trees, and engage in debate and discussion about environmental consciousness.

ULLAS – Nav Bharat Saaksharta Karyakram information:

In line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the Government of India authorized the Centrally Sponsored Scheme ULLAS – Nav Bharat Saaksharta Karyakram on Education for All (formerly known as Adult Education) for implementation during FYs 2022–27.

There are five parts in the plan, which are as follows:

Basic literacy and numeracy (i)

Critical Life Skills (ii)

Basic Education (iii)

(iv) Practical Knowledge

(v) Lifelong Learning

On July 29, 2023, in New Delhi, during the grand celebration of the third anniversary of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan unveiled the logo, slogan, or tagline—Jan Jan Sakshar—and popular name—ULLAS (Understanding of Lifelong Learning for All in Society).
