Government gives the April–June list of dry days

A schedule of dry days in the capital, which includes religious holidays from April to June and the dates of the 18th Lok Sabha elections, has been released by the Delhi government.

The Excise Department of Delhi said in a notice dated April 2 that there would be five dry days in April. During these days, all liquor stores will be closed with tight enforcement. Id-ul-Fitr (April 11), Ram Navami (April 17), and Mahavir Jayanti (April 21) fall on these dry days.

In addition, a dry day will be observed (before 48 hours after the vote ends) from 6 p.m. on April 24 to 6 p.m. on April 26 due to the Lok Sabha elections in the Uttar Pradesh districts of Baghpat, Ghaziabad, and Gautam Buddh Nagar. It will be applicable to all license holders having stores or locations within 100 meters of the Uttar Pradesh borders with the districts of Baghpat, Ghaziabad, and Gautam Buddh Nagar.

Different types of liquor shops and other licensed establishments in the National Capital Territory of Delhi will shut (before 48 hours of the poll’s finish) from 6 p.m. on May 23 to 6 p.m. on May 25 in anticipation of voting in the city’s seven Lok Sabha seats, according to a separate notice from the excise department.

Additionally, it said that on June 4, the whole day of the Lok Sabha election, the city’s liquor outlets would be closed.

Furthermore, dry days are planned for May and June, which fall on May 23 in honor of Buddha Purnima and June 17 in honor of Id-ul-Zuha.

It is within the power of the Delhi Excise Commissioner to declare certain days as dry for religious holidays and other occasions.
