Grain market arrivals of wheat in Yamunanagar are down 48.5%

Wheat arrivals have not yet picked up steam in Yamunanagar district’s grain markets because of the unseasonal rain in March and the extended period of cold weather that has persisted, particularly the prolonged duration of chilly nights.

Information indicates that as of April 17 of the previous year, 1,54,442 MT of wheat had been purchased at the district’s grain markets.

But so far this year, only 79,567 MT of wheat have been purchased in the area, which is around 48.5% less than what was brought in the previous year.

Due to the prolonged cold weather and March rains in the Yamunanagar district, wheat crop harvesting began a bit later this year. The early-sown wheat crop is already being harvested, but the late-sown wheat crop will take longer to mature, according to Satish Kumar, Assistant Plant Protection Officer, Yamunanagar Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare.

Based on the information that is currently available, Yamunanagar City’s grain market has only purchased 51 MT of wheat as of April 17, which is the least amount purchased in the district’s grain markets.

Up to 17,474 MT of wheat were purchased at Saraswati Nagar’s grain market, the most in the district.

11,278 MT of wheat were purchased from the grain market in Bilaspur, while 12,130 MT were purchased from the grain market in Radaur. 11,689 MT of wheat were purchased at Jagadhri grain market.

“I didn’t have to face any problem in selling my produce in this grain market,” said farmer Sajid from Bambhol village, who had come to sell his wheat harvest at the Jagadhri grain market.

According to Deputy Commissioner Capt. Manoj Kumar, the district’s grain markets are operating well when it comes to the procurement of wheat harvest. In order to ensure that farmers have no issues, he stated, “I have instructed the concerned officers to take special care of facilities like drinking water, cleanliness, toilets, and electricity in all grain markets of the district.”
