Green energy workshop at Ladakh University

Amit Sharma, Secretary of Rural Development and MD of SIDCO Ladakh, was the main guest at a two-day workshop on “Energy Transition and Green Hydrogen” that the University of Ladakh (UoL) and the Hydrocarbon Sector Skill Council (HSSC) organized.

Special visitors were Prof. SK Mehta, Vice-Chancellor of UOL; CEO of HSSC; Dr. GS Kapoor, Advisor, GAIL; and Dr. Suhas Deshmukh, Director, NCVET, New Delhi.

SK Bose greeted Amit Sharma and other dignitaries in a polite manner. He welcomed everyone and presented a brief overview of the workshop, as well as the reasons Ladakh is the perfect location for the Green Hydrogen Mission.

In his opening remarks for the two-day workshop, Prof. SK Mehta said that green hydrogen is the “fuel of the future.” Additionally, he said that the UoL would begin offering several skill courses in this field. Additionally, he commended the HSSC for leading the charge on this agenda.

During his speech, Amit Sharma discussed his thoughts on turning Ladakh into the country’s first carbon-neutral state, or UT and the significance of this workshop in reaching that objective. He discussed Ladakh’s strategic significance and how, through unique efforts, the area has shown its value to the international community.

Amit also described SIDCO Ladakh’s involvement in reducing the ongoing danger that air pollution poses to the environment and the steps taken to counteract it, such as using the most electric cars possible in a short amount of time in both UT districts.

He said that as part of the National Green Hydrogen Mission, there would soon be five hydrogen-fuel cell buses that would aid in public transportation and be the first of their kind in the country.

He also discussed the many advancements that Ladakh has seen since becoming a UT. His speech was primarily concerned with the technological revolutions; he gave the game-changing examples of e-Office and e-freight carriers, which will soon be launched here.

In his keynote speech, Sharma also discussed the upcoming creation of Ladakh Science City in Utah and a number of testing labs.
