IMD predicts more rainfall in Odisha

The IMD on Saturday predicted severe rains in the state’s interior and northern regions due to the creation of a new low-pressure system over north Odisha and the neighboring Gangetic West Bengal.

According to IMD sources, some rain fell on Saturday in locations like Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Sonepur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, and Boudh.

On Sunday, heavy rain was also expected in a few locations in the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Dhenkanal, Angul, Sambalpur, Keonjhar, Deogarh, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sonepur, Boudh, Balangir, and Kandhamal.

According to the IMD, owing to the influence of the low pressure, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected to happen at one or two locations across the districts of Dhenkanal, Angul, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Boudh, Balangir, and Kandhamal on July 31.

For numerous areas, the IMD has issued an amber alert (heavy to very heavy rainfall) from August 1 to 3. 18 villages in the districts of Kandhamal and Gajapati have been shut off from the main land as a result of connecting roads and bridges being washed away in the meanwhile.

Communication to three villages in Mohana block of Gajapati district has been cut off after a makeshift wooden bridge across the Harabhangi river in the region washed away, while 15 villages in Phiringia block of Kandhamal district have been submerged by heavy rain since Friday.
