Important Step to Protect Citizens’ Rights: Digital Personal Data Protection Bill, MoS IT

Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Minister of State for Electronics and IT, stated that the Digital Personal Data Protection Bill, which was approved by Parliament on Wednesday, is a crucial step in defending people’ rights and promoting innovation in the economy and government.

In a post on X (previously Twitter), Chandrasekhar claimed that his involvement in the matter began in 2010 as a petitioner who successfully battled for privacy to be recognized as a basic right.

“Today, Parliament approved the Digital Personal Data Protection Bill… As a result of my involvement with the privacy problem, which began in 2010, I petitioned the Supreme Court and won the case, establishing privacy as a basic right,” he said on X (previously Twitter).

He expressed his gratitude to the Prime Minister for the chance, saying, “Feel deeply privileged at being given the opportunity by PM Narendra Modi ji to help achieve this important step to protect our citizens rights and support innovation economy and governance.” According to PM Modi, India has had a worldwide standard legislation for the protection of digital personal data for more than ten years.

In the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said that the Bill imposes requirements on both government and commercial organizations regarding the gathering and handling of citizen data.
