In summer 2024, railways will operate a record-breaking 9,111 trips

Indian Railways has been running a record-breaking 9,111 journeys in the summer to make sure that passengers are comfortable and to handle the expected increase in demand for travel.

Compared to the summer of 2023, when a total of 6,369 excursions were provided, this represents a significant increase. As a result, there has been a 2,742 trip increase, which indicates Indian Railways’ dedication to efficiently serving passenger expectations, the Ministry of Railways said on Friday.

The extra trains have been carefully scheduled to link important locations around the nation, guaranteeing smooth travel on important rail lines.

In order to accommodate the summer travel rush from states like Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Odisha, West Bengal, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Delhi, all of India’s zonal railways have prepared to run these extra trips.

Zonal Railways have been directed to make sure that drinking water is available at railway stations throughout the summer. All big and significant railway stations have sophisticated systems in place to manage crowding. According to the ministry, senior police are stationed at these sites to keep an eye on all operations and manage the throng in a methodical way.

Personnel from the Railway Protection Force (RPF) have been stationed at the starting stations to guarantee the General Class coach admission queue. Trained RPF personnel are stationed in CCTV Control Rooms to monitor busy areas closely and provide passengers with on-the-spot assistance.

Staff from the Government Railway Police (GRP) and RPF are stationed at foot-over bridges to manage crowds and prevent stampede-like scenarios during peak rush hour.

In addition to the information of passengers on waitlists in the PRS system, the ministry shared that the planning and operation of additional trains is a continuous process for which inputs are taken from all the communication channels available 24 hours a day, including media reports, social media platforms, and the Railway Integrated helpline number 139.

The number of trains and trips are increased in accordance with this demand. Throughout the season, neither the total number of trains nor the total number of trips made by extra train(s) are constant.
