In Tamil Nadu, three elderly voters pass away at voting places

Even as the state’s peaceful Lok Sabha election was taking place on Friday, three elderly voters who had come to the polls to exercise their right to vote passed away. Salem was the site of two of these fatalities, while Tiruttani was the site of the third.

Three people from Salem, R Chinnaponnu (77), N Palaniswamy (65), and K Kanagaraj (70) of Tiruttani, passed away.

In the first instance, R Chinnaponnu died after coming with her son and other family members to Sentharampatti primary school in a wheelchair to cast her ballot. She passed away within the booth before going to the EVM after ID confirmation.

Palaniswamy, meanwhile, passed away on Friday afternoon after passing out during a queue at the Old Suramangalam Elementary School. Palaniswamy and his wife Kamala, according to sources, had arrived.

Kanagaraj, a resident of Nemili Colony in Tiruttani, passed away on Friday while traveling to voting place 269 in the Tiruttani Assembly segment under the Arakkonam Lok Sabha seat with his son Sridhar. Kanagaraj passed out unexpectedly while being verified. He was sent to the Tiruttani Government Hospital very quickly. But after examining him, the accompanying physician pronounced him dead. After the police filed a case, further research is being done.
