Intense rain in UP threw Lucknow’s daily routine out of whack

Since Sunday evening, Uttar Pradesh has been experiencing torrential rains followed by thunderstorms and lightning in numerous areas of the state, including the state capital, after most districts in the state had insufficient rainfall during the months of July and August.

The Meteorological Department has forecast thundershowers and heavy rain in various areas of the state during the next 48 hours. Orange warning has been issued for Bijnor, Moradabad, Rampur, and the adjacent districts, while red alert has been issued for Lucknow, Barabanki, Gonda, Lakhimpur Kheri, Hardoi, and Sitapur.

Up to 8 am on Monday, Lucknow had record rainfall of 88.1 mm. Due to severe rains on Sunday night and Monday morning that caused water logging in the majority of the areas, district officials declared a vacation for all schools, paralyzing regular life in the city.

Due to the lightning and heavy rain, the District Administration has advised the citizens to remain indoors.

Dr. Roshan Jacob, the divisional commissioner for Lucknow, visited numerous communities with government representatives to assess the situation caused by waterlogging. He provided the Municipal Corporation’s responsible authorities in attendance with the appropriate instructions.

The Meteorological Department has forecast heavy in Lucknow, Lakhimpur Kheri, Sitapur, Hardoi, Kanpur, Barabanki, Aligarh, Mathura, Hathras, Agra, Firozabad, Etawah, Auraiya, Bareilly, Pilibhit, Shahjahanpur, Sambhal, Bandaun, Jalaun, Hamirpur, Mahoba, Jhansi and Lalitpur districts.

According to the forecast, the current weather will last until September 14 when rain will lessen in intensity.

In the last 24 hours, Moradabad had the most rainfall (153.2 mm), followed by Sambhal with 131 mm, Barabanki with 119.6 mm, Kasganj with 116.7 mm, and Kannauj with 107 mm.

Yogi Adityanath, the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, has in the meanwhile ordered the authorities of the affected areas to carry out relief efforts as soon as possible in light of the rainfall. Officers should go to the region and monitor the relief efforts, he said.

The CM has also instructed authorities to make efficient plans for water drainage in the event of waterlogging.

According to him, the government should receive information on agricultural loss, ongoing river water level monitoring, and crop damage assessments so that the affected farmers may get compensation in accordance with the law.
