Investigating a lost or stolen jewelry bill: Chandigarh court

A five-year-old theft case has resulted in a conviction for the accused, despite the defense attorney’s mistaken claims that the prosecution has not shown invoices of stolen idol jewelry.

According to the court, devotees who often don’t submit invoices for products donated to the idol presented the image with jewelry like “mukut” and “chattar.”

In response to a complaint made by Dinesh Mehta, the police opened a case on January 8, 2018, and Harjeet Singh was taken into custody. According to the complaint, on January 8, 2018, four individuals broke into Shiv Mandir in Sector 24, Chandigarh, and took two silver shivling mukut, three silver chattars, and two brass Laddu Gopal idols.

The accused was wrongfully charged in the case, according to the defense attorney, and the prosecution has not produced invoices for the stolen goods.

Judicial Magistrate First Class Chetesh Gupta of Chandigarh declared after the arguments that the prosecution has proven the case against the accused beyond a reasonable doubt. The court imposed a jail term on Kumar, which he had previously received throughout his trial and inquiry.
