Jadavpur University student killing case: six more people detained in Kolkata

On Wednesday morning, six additional persons were detained in connection with the student death case at Jadavpur University, bringing the overall number of arrests in the case to nine, according to the police.

Four persons were detained during operations carried out by several teams of Kolkata Police overnight, according to an officer.

 

Md. Arif, a third-year student of civil engineering at Jadavpur University, was identified as the apprehended suspect. Ankan Sardar, a third-year civil engineering student at Jadavpur University, and Md. Asif Azmal, an electrical engineering student in his fourth year.

 

 

Last night, the Kolkata Police conducted simultaneous searches at several locations in Purbo Medinipur and South 24 Parganas in an effort to apprehend three additional suspects.

 

These individuals were identified as former Jadavpur institution students Asit Sardar, Saptak Kamilya, and Suman Naskar. Asit Sardar is an ex-student of the institution.

 

After the event, all three of the ex-students left Kolkata, according to the police.

 

In addition, the sleuths said that all six people who had been detained on Wednesday appeared in court.

 

According to the official, the Joint CP Crime would meet with the Jadavpur University Dean of Students and Registrar on Wednesday at 3 p.m. in Lalbazar.

 

Swarnodip Kundu, a first-year student at Jadavpur University, passed away on August 10 after reportedly falling from the hostel’s balcony on the evening of August 9.

 

Prior to this, the police detained Deepsekhar Dutta (19), a native of Bankura district and a second-year student of economics at the university.

 

Manotosh Ghosh, a 20-year-old sociology student in his second year and a native of Hooghly, was the second suspect to be apprehended.

 

Sourav Chowdhury, the third suspect who had been detained and who was also a former student at the institution, was presented before a municipal court on August 12 and was remanded in jail until August 22.

 

Kundu, a first-year Bengali Department student, was from the Nadia area. On the night of the purported fall itself, the kid was brought to the adjacent KPC Hospital in Jadavpur by classmates.

 

An officer had previously said, “The student passed away on Thursday morning while receiving treatment.”
