Jairam Ramesh called it “shameful” that Amit Shah questioned the “timing” of Manipur’s release

On Wednesday, Congressman Jairam Ramesh called it “shameful” that Home Minister Amit Shah had questioned the “timing” of the publication of a video showing two women being paraded in the public without clothes in Manipur.

Shah was accused of “only accepting his own incompetence” by Ramesh by asserting that intelligence services were unaware of the existence of such a film.

A day before the start of the Monsoon session of Parliament, on July 19, the footage of the event from May 4 leaked, setting off a national uproar.

Ramesh stated, “It’s absolutely shameful that the Home Minister is questioning the ‘timing’ of the release of the horrific video from Manipur,” after Shah’s remarks in the Lok Sabha during the discussion on the vote of no-confidence. He’s merely admitting his own failure as India’s Home Minister when he says on the floor of the Parliament that the intelligence services were unaware of the existence of such a film. He’s also unintentionally confirming the Chief Minister of Manipur’s complete unworthiness,” Ramesh said on X, previously known as Twitter.

Shah said in the Lok Sabha that although the Manipur occurrences are awful, politicizing them is much more repugnant.

He said that the video had surfaced days after it had been recorded and suggested that if anybody had knowledge of it, they should have reported it to the police and other authorities so that they could take prompt action.
