Jyotiraditya Scindia releases a six-point action plan to counteract flight delays

The Minister of Union Civil Aviation released new regulations after severe fog caused aircraft delays. Just one day before, the aviation watchdog, the DGCA, had released new SOPs in response to a dispute involving flights across the nation, particularly in Northern India.

The new regulations call for the establishment of war rooms in each of the six major airports to address any concerns regarding passenger inconvenience immediately. They also mandate the monitoring of the application of the DGCA directives, Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), and Civil Aviation Requirements (CAR).

In addition, he requested that airports guarantee the continuous availability of enough CISF personnel and that all six metro airports report incidents three times a day.

New SOPs are issued by DGCA to airlines.
The Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) guiding airlines on probable flight cancellations owing to severe delays caused by unfavorable weather conditions were released by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) only one day before. The action is a component of the DGCA’s initiatives to guarantee passenger safety and optimize operations in inclement weather.

This set of rules is included in Civil Aviation Regulation (CAR) Section-3, Series M Part IV, which is headed “Facilities to be provided to passengers by airlines due to denied boarding, cancellation of flights, and delays in flights.” Airlines are required by the DGCA to provide a visible link to this CAR on their flight tickets. By taking this step, travelers will be made more aware of their rights in the event of a delay, cancellation, or refused boarding. The CAR’s regulations are mandatory for all airlines to follow, as the aviation authority has made clear.
