Karnataka’s state education policy will replace NEP 2020

The National Education Policy, 2020 will be replaced with a new state education policy, according to Karnataka’s Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, who met with officials and representatives of various educational institutions on Monday in Bengaluru.

“Representatives from numerous educational institutions and other authorities attended the conference, where we had serious talks concerning the education policy. The NEP 2020 will no longer be used, as stated in our manifesto, according to DK Shivakumar.

He said that the administration will form a new committee to work on a new education strategy for the state and that states like Tamil Nadu and Kerala have already abandoned the old one.

“Karnataka is a knowledge centre and has strong human resources. Our own system of high-quality education exists here. Therefore, the National Education Policy is being abandoned. No Nagpur education policy is what we demand. Within a week, a new committee will be established, and they will conduct an investigation.

Earlier, DK Shivakumar said that the school system in Karnataka is a “model for the country” in a tweet on X (formerly Twitter).

“Karnataka’s educational system is a national model. Bangalore is now known as the IT capital for this reason. Because of our educational system, so many residents of the state have respectable jobs overseas, the deputy CM said on X.

Siddaramaiah, the chief minister of Karnataka, announced earlier this week that the NEP will be discontinued beginning with the next academic year.

According to him, the NEP put in place by the previous Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) administration would be totally scrapped beginning with the next academic year.

“NEP must be eliminated following the proper planning. By the time the election results were announced and the new administration was constituted, the academic year had already started. To prevent causing the children any hardship in the midst of the school year, NEP has been maintained this year, the CM added.

Students, parents, professors, and instructors have all voiced their opposition to NEP at the same time, he said.

Madhu Bangarappa, the minister of primary education for Karnataka, said that the state education department has opted not to adopt the NEP and would instead put the State Education Policy (SEP) into practice.

It should be emphasized that NEP 2020, which was introduced in July 2020, offers a set of guiding principles for a paradigm change across the Indian educational system, from primary to postgraduate levels.
