Kerala: A man kills his wife and attempts to hide the crime as a suicide

A thorough investigation by the police, which also considered the possibility of a lady in Chottanikkara having committed herself, has turned up evidence of murder. Shaiju, 37, was taken into custody by police after his wife Shari passed away on Christmas Day.

Shaiju filed a lawsuit alleging that Shari killed herself by hanging from their bedroom ceiling. Shaiju said that after taking her to a private hospital in Chottanikkara, he cut the shawl she had been using to hang herself. Subsequently, her death was declared.

To look into the matter, Ernakulam Rural SP Vaibhav Saxena assembled a special investigative team. Evidence gathered from the murder scene, witness interviews, comments made by the police surgeon who performed the postmortem, and injuries discovered on the deceased’s body all proved to be significant. In addition, Shaiju’s contradicting remarks contributed to the team’s decision.

Police were notified by neighbors that the pair, who married after a romantic relationship, often quarreled. Shaiju used a scarf to strangle his wife to death. He also choked her with her nightgown. Officers added that before transferring Shari to a hospital in Chottanikkara, he attempted to hang her from the ceiling using the shawl to make it seem as if she had committed suicide. The arrest was made by a squad under the direction of Puthencruz DySP T B Vijayan.
