Kerala: An accomplice in the killing of a lady in Kozhikode is a habitual criminal

Following over a week of confusion, the Perambra police have discovered that the lady, 26, whose corpse was discovered near the Nochad primary health center in a stream, was killed.

The breakthrough occurred when Mujeeb Rahman, a thief and repeat offender from Vazhakkad in Malappuram, was apprehended by the police for the incident.

On March 12, the corpse of Anu Prajil, the daughter of Vasu of Valoor near Perambra, was discovered in the stream. Despite their first suspicion that it was a suicide, the police stepped up their investigation after learning that Anu’s gold jewelry was stolen and that there wasn’t enough water in the stream for someone to drown.

Mujeeb, a resident of Kondotty, was apprehended on Saturday. He is connected to around 55 crimes, including an attempted rape. According to the authorities, Mujeeb stole Anu’s jewels and drowned her in the creek. Aboobacker, a resident of Kondotty who assisted Mujeeb in selling the items, has also been taken into custody.

According to the authorities, on March 11, Anu left her parents’ Valoor home to visit a hospital. Her husband, Prajil Raj, a resident of Iringannur, was meant to pick her up on route at Muliyangal.

Mujeeb has a reputation for giving ladies a ride and stealing their chains. He was riding a motorbike he had stolen from Mattanur on the morning of March 11 when he saw Anu. According to Perambra DySP K M Biju, “He came up to her, struck up a conversation, and offered to give her a lift to the next junction.” He stated there was no acquaintance between the accused and the victim.

Later, Anu was taken to the creek by Mujeeb, who drowned her. He stole her jewelry and ran away, according to Biju.

A year ago, Anu and Prajil tied the knot. Her mother had just undergone surgery, therefore she had lately visited her folks. Anu never showed up, so Prajil went to Muliyangal to pick her up. When Anu failed to return home by the evening, the family filed a missing person’s report.

The next day, March 12, while looking for her, the authorities discovered a corpse in the creek. Although Anu’s mother Saraswathy said that her necklace, two rings, bracelet, and anklets were gone, her family was able to identify the corpse. Anu’s phone and handbag were eventually found by the police in a ditch next to the stream.

The inquiry

Anu died as a result of muck and water getting into her lungs, according to the postmortem investigation. A forensic surgeon from Kozhikode Medical College Hospital later examined the scene of Anu’s death. When the police looked through the CCTV, they found a clip of Anu riding a motorbike with a male. Through a motorbike-focused investigation and further CCTV analysis, the police were able to connect the car theft case in Mattanur to Mujeeb.
