Malerkotla: Lawmakers get a warning for breaking electioneering regulations

Election in-charges of different political parties fielding candidates in this region’s Sangrur and Fatehgarh Sahib Lok Sabha seats have been warned not to break Election Commission rules throughout the campaign trail till June 1 voting.

All party officials and staff members have been requested to make sure that candidates and leaders running their campaigns do not contravene the Election Commission’s guidelines, which are received periodically. If they are found to have committed any kind of default, severe measures will be taken against the candidate and any of their supporters.

Additionally, government employees have been encouraged to make sure that all requests for required permits and complaints are handled within the allotted time.

A number of meetings have been held, according to District Election Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner Pallavi, to educate representatives of different political parties launching candidates on the dos and don’ts of electioneering for the district’s Sangrur and Fatehgarh Sahib LS constituencies.

We have conducted in-depth talks with district-level leaders of several political parties that have launched or are anticipated to launch candidates for the Sangrur and Fatehgarh Sahib LS seats in this area, in addition to hosting a number of meetings at the sub-division level. In addition to outlining the repercussions of breaking the ECI rules and providing a sample code of conduct, we have thoroughly depicted the guidelines in the language of their choosing,” DC Pallavi said.

A minimum amount of time was required for each application, so the candidates, likely candidates, and their supporters were asked to submit their requests for permission in a timely manner for a variety of uses, such as helipads, helicopters, digital or video vans, loud speakers, processions, temporary offices, air balloons, door-to-door campaigns, banners, pamphlets, or flags.

The DEO cautioned political party officials against using any kind of hate speech or making disparaging, casteist, or communal statements while campaigning. “We have additionally requested that they obtain certification for the contents of all promotional materials from the district-level media certification and monitoring cell and guarantee that no advertisement is placed a day before polling without prior authorization,” DC Pallavi said.
