Manipur: A delegation from the opposition meets with Governor Anusuiya Uikey and submits a memo

At the Raj Bhavan in Imphal on Sunday, the team of opposition lawmakers visiting Manipur met with the governor, Anusuiya Uikey.

21 members of the opposition coalition INDIA are visiting Manipur for two days. Manipur has been the scene of ethnic conflict since May 3. The MPs met with the victims of the month-long violence on Saturday, the first day of their tour, while visiting aid camps.

Uikey received a note from the delegation. Adhir Chowdhury, the head of the Congress, said that Uikey suggested that an all-party team visit Manipur to engage with the populace during their meeting.

On May 3, ethnic conflict broke out in Manipur between the Meitei and tribal tribes of the state. A Tribal Solidarity March was conducted on May 3 in opposition to the Meiteis’ planned scheduled tribe (ST) designation. Thousands of people have been displaced and more than 150 people have already perished as a result of the violence. Houses, governmental structures, places of worship, and political institutions have all been attacked.

On Sunday, the opposition MPs sent a note to governor Anusuiya Uikey outlining their concerns about the state of Manipur.

After their visit, Chowdhury gave a press conference and said that the opposition team will report their findings in the parliament.

Uikey suggested that a cross-party group go to Manipur to interact with the locals, according to Chowdhury.

“Governor stated all-party committee should go to Manipur to meet with locals and discuss eradicating distrust amongst groups…In Parliament, we’ll discuss our views on Manipur. As the situation in Manipur worsens daily, we have asked that it be discussed in Parliament.According to Chowdhury, if the Manipur issue is not settled quickly, it might pose a security risk to the nation.

The visiting was criticized as a show-off by the governing Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). On the other hand, the opposition has argued that the Manipur crisis should not be politicized. Ten opposition members, some of whom are part of the group now in Manipur, had previously referred to Chief Minister N Biren Singh as the “architect” of the violence. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also received harsh criticism from the opposition for remaining mute about the violence in the state.

“We have always said that if the Prime Minister wants to lead an all-party delegation, we would be happy to be a part of it,” Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi said. We want peace to be achieved in the end.

According to Hindustan Times (HT), Adhir Chowdhury, who is also the head of the Congress party in the Lok Sabha, previously said that the opposition was not attempting to use the matter for political gain.

The crucial aspect is that Manipur has been ignored, according to Chowdhury. The problem is becoming worse since both the state government and the federal government ignored it. Peace should return as soon as possible. Maintaining fairness and peace is crucial. We’ll insist that the governor do all in his power to get things back to normal. It is the government’s failing.

Manoj Jha, a member of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), had said, “We are going to ask the Governor to restore calm in the state. A note will be sent to the governor.

Sushmita Dev, a member of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), had said, “The situation is not good here (Manipur); we want to present a joint memorandum to the Governor and appeal for peace.” We’ll want the governor to let PM Modi and Union HM Amit Shah know how things are going in the state.
