Many fill Belagavi highways; stores close

Belagavi/Dharwad: On Monday, a sizable protest demonstration was held in Belagavi under the name of Jagruta Mahila Vedike (JMV) to denounce the recent murder of Neha Hiremath, a student at BVB College in Hubballi. The gathering was organized by a number of organizations, including right-wing parties.

The demonstration was attended by hundreds of participants from the Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Bajrang Dal, Shri Ram Sene, Belagavi Bar Association, medical and nursing groups, and students.

BJP officials attended the gathering, including Jagadish Shettar, the candidate for Lok Sabha from Belagavi.
The protestors formed a human chain at Channamma Circle, having marched via Ramdev Galli, Khade Bazar, Shaniwar Khoot, and Kakati Ves en route from Maruti Galli. Extra DC At the Channamma Circle, a note was sent to Vijaykumar Honakeri.

The demonstrators requested that Fayaz, the accused, be met. The demonstrators said that since the Congress party took power in the state, there had been more assaults against Hindus.

Participating swamijis were Rachayya Shivapujimath of Kakati, Kadasiddheshwar swamiji of Shivapur, Hariguru Maharaj of Rudrakesari Mutt, Ganeshpur, and Pudinaganath swamiji of Bapat Galli, Belagavi.
Muslim businessmen show support

Muslim-owned businesses in Dharwad city closed for a half-day on Monday in observance of Neha’s passing. In response to a request from the Anjuman-E-Islam Society, Muslims took part in a silent protest march.
The march started from Old Bus Stand Circle and went through the city’s major thoroughfares, ending at the tahsildar office. Members demanded harsh punishment for the offenders and held signs that said, “Justice for Neha.” In the Jubilee Circle, they also created a human chain.

Ismail Tamatgar, the president of Anjuman, addressed the demonstrators after handing over a message to the tahsildar and said that the event had “shamed” the community. “No religion in the world advocates violence and hatred. Islam also promotes love and fraternity,” he said.
