No screening exam for parents or students

In Haryana, there won’t be a screening exam for enrollment in either government or private schools.

The Hayana Government has requested district level authorities take stringent measures against the practice of subjecting students and their guardians to screening exams, after accusations that certain institutions were engaging in this misconduct.

“When admitting a youngster, no individual or educational institution may demand a capitation or subject the child to a screening process.The individual or school faces a fine that may reach Rs 50,000 for each subsequent infraction and up to Rs 25,000 for the first one.

subsequent violation,” the Directorate of School Education said in an order released today, citing Rule 13 of the Right to Education (RTE) Act.

Officials at the district level were instructed by the order to carry out the word and spirit of many RTE Act regulations, including Rule 13. The RTE Act ensures that a certain proportion of students aged 6 to 14 who come from lower socioeconomic backgrounds get free and compulsory education.

In the meanwhile, the directive prohibited government schools from administering any screening exams to neighborhood school pupils who have completed Class VIII and are applying for admission to Class IX.

The judgment also said that it is the moral obligation of the local schools to provide a seamless and trouble-free transition from Class VIII to Class IX.
