Odisha: After almost seven days, raids at Congress MP Dhiraj Sahu’s property conclude, with Rs 351 crore recovered

After more than a week of searching, the Income Tax officers and CISF soldiers departed Balangir on Tuesday. The searches had targeted the home of Congress MP Dhiraj Prasad Sahu. According to authorities, up to 30-34 locations in West Bengal, Jharkhand, and Odisha were searched. But in Ranchi, the raids are still going on.

After the five-day counting concluded on Sunday, the I-T department conducted the largest-ever cash seizure in the nation in a single operation, totaling Rs 351 crore for any agency. According to the department, they also confiscated almost 3 kilograms of gold jewelry.

Thus far, a substantial amount of money has been found during the Income Tax department’s searches of Boudh Distillery Private Limited, located in Odisha, and its associated organizations. Hawala Operators’ Role
Official sources said that investigations have also focused on the suspected roles played by shell corporations and hawala operators in facilitating the “illicit” financial transfers. The income tax department’s field investigation wing has also forwarded an initial report on the action to the department’s administrative authority, the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) in Delhi. The Boudh Distillery Pvt. Ltd. (BDPL), which has its headquarters in Bhubaneswar, was the target of further searches at around seven different sites.
