Odisha: Boat capsizes in Mahanadi River, leaving at least four dead and several more missing

In a sad event, a boat capsized on Saturday in Jharsuguda, Odisha, leaving many people missing and at least four dead. Three corpses have been pulled out of the Mahanadi River, PTI reports.

Three children and seven other people, including a 35-year-old lady, were reported missing by the police earlier. Over fifty people were aboard the boat when the disaster occurred on the Mahanadi River on Friday, according to authorities, the outlet stated.

A search for the missing people is being conducted in the meantime by a rescue operation.

Kartikeya Goyal, a collector from Jharsuguda, reportedly told reporters, “The search operation is still ongoing,” according to ANI. We’ve been informed that Bhubaneshwar would provide the scuba divers.

“So far, we have saved between 47 and 48 individuals, and tonight we will return them to their communities. A 35-year-old woman’s corpse has been found. There are three children and four women missing. The hunt is now under progress,” the collector said, citing
