Odisha’s 28 Assembly seats and four LS seats are up for election; nominations are now open

The Election Commission of India (ECI) released notifications on Thursday for the four Lok Sabha and twenty-eight Assembly seats in Odisha that will go to polls in the country’s fourth phase of elections and the state’s first on May 13.

According to the announcement, polling would take place in the fourth phase for the Lok Sabha seats in Kalahandi, Nabarangpur (ST), Berhampur, and Koraput. Elections will also take place that day in 28 Assembly constituencies, which are parts of the four Lok Sabha seats, according to Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Nikunja Behari Dhal.

On Thursday, the constituencies began submitting their candidacy papers. Although April 25 is the deadline for nominations, April 26 is when the documents will be examined. He said that April 29 is the deadline for nomination withdrawals.

The CEO informed the media that due of the heatwave, political parties have been instructed not to hold large-scale demonstrations during the nomination filing process. In some places, the voting period will be two hours shorter even though the booths will be open from 7 am to 6 pm. In areas plagued by left-wing extremism, the booths will shut at 4 p.m. Among them are 29 voting places in the Khariar segment and 39 in Nuapada. On the other hand, voting in these two Assembly parts will end at 5:00 p.m.

Similar to this, voting will end at 4 p.m. in 22 polling places in the Umerkote (ST) segment; however, voting will continue until 6 p.m. at polling places that are unaffected.

According to the CEO, voting will end at 4 p.m. at 40 polling places located in the Jharigram (ST), Nabarangpur (ST), and Dabugam (ST) sectors. In a same vein, voting will conclude at 4 PM in all polling places inside the Kalahandi district’s Lanjigarh (ST) sector. ~

He said that voting in the segments for Mohana (ST), Laxmipur (ST), and Pottangi (ST) would end at 4 PM. At 5 p.m., voting will close in Kotpad, Koraput, Malkangiri, Rayagada, and additional seats in the districts of Gajapati and Nuadapa.

Across the four seats, voting will occur at as many as 7,289 polling places. In addition, fourteen more polling sites have been established at various locations so that over one thousand five hundred people may exercise their right to vote.

According to the CEO, there are 31,87,771 more female voters in the four Lok Sabha seats than male voters (30,96,243). Sixty-three of the 62,84649 voters are transgender. He said, “While 2.78 percent of voters are between the ages of 18 and 19, 23.34 percent are between the ages of 20 and 29.”
