Pair apprehended for defrauding a guy in Faridabad of Rs 30.8 lakh

A 52-year-old man and his spouse were taken into custody by the Crime branch of police in relation to an incident where a shopkeeper was deceived into paying Rs 30.8 lakh under the false pretense of selling him gold at a lower price.

According to a police officer, the suspect—Ram Singh, a native of Rajasthan’s Karoli village—had tricked a shopkeeper in Sector-88 two months before and fled after stealing Rs. 30.84 lakh from him.

Posing as a former Army officer, Singh informed the victim that one of his relatives worked as a customs department official and that he could obtain him gold for Rs 35,000 every 10 kilos.

The suspect turned off his phone and ran away while the shopkeeper who was tricked by the offer handed him money from his savings and even borrowed some from his family. The police have also detained Singh’s wife Suman for allegedly aiding him in the crime.

According to the police, an input led to Ram Singh’s arrest from Bhopal last week. Later, his wife was taken into custody in Kota. The husband and wife were placed into police detention for a period of six days and three days, respectively.

From the accused, the police have taken cash, jewelry, and expensive electronics worth a total of Rs 24 lakh. A sum of Rs 5 lakh, along with many gold jewelry pieces, a laptop, two cell phones, an iPad, and other articles of cash are among the loot that was found. The whole sum of Rs 1.3 lakh in their bank account has been blocked.

The victim shopkeeper was approached by suspect Ram Singh, who pretended to be a former Army officer, who said he could obtain him gold for Rs 35,000 per 10 kilos since one of his cousins worked as a customs department official.
