Pench, Maharashtra, increases foot traffic in its silver jubilee year

Nagpur: The number of visitors to the Pench Tiger Reserve (PTR), home of Mowgli, in Maharashtra has doubled. Over one lakh people visited the tiger reserve in 2023–24, up from 41,000 during the pre-Covid era (2020–21). It so happens that the park is celebrating its silver jubilee this year.

Pench is an ideal travel destination since it is home to around 40 tigers, 71 animals, 367 bird species, 170 butterfly species, 53 reptiles, and other attractions.

From the gates of Sillari, Khursapar, Chorbahuli, Kolitmara, Surewani, and Khubada, there are seven tourist itineraries.

In an effort to improve tourist experiences and attract more people, the park management has added a number of new features and attractions. The development of agro-tourism is one of the steps being taken to increase tourism in Pench (741 square kilometers).

Through agrotourism, visitors may learn about and get a sense of the local farming methods. Visitors can engage with local farmers, learn about crop cultivation, and even participate in farming activities. In addition to offering visitors an educational experience, this program boosts the local economy, according to Prabhu Nath Shukla, deputy director of Pench.

Pench now provides a full-day safari for enthusiasts.
For those who would rather take their time and appreciate the natural surroundings, a nature path including a QR-based information system has also been set up. During these treks, visitors may learn about various plant kinds, birds, and smaller creatures, according to Shukla.
At the Sillari entrance, one car has been particularly customized for “Divyang,” or people with disabilities, to make the park more accessible. Because of this vehicle’s wheelchair accessibility, Divyanga visitors may enjoy the safari without any difficulties
