PM Modi will lay the cornerstone for the renovation of 508 railroad stations

On August 6, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will use video conference to lay the cornerstone for the renovation of 508 railway stations around the nation, according to his office.

These 508 stations are distributed among 27 states and union territories, with 55 stations each in Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan, 49 in Bihar, 44 in Maharashtra, 37 in West Bengal, 34 in Madhya Pradesh, 32 in Assam, 25 in Odisha, 22 in Punjab, 21 in Gujarat and Telangana, 20 in Jharkhand, 18 in Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, 15 in Haryana, and 13 in Karnataka.

The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) stated that the redevelopment, which will cost Rs 24,470 crore, will provide contemporary amenities for travelers in addition to ensuring well-designed traffic circulation, inter-modal integration, and well-designed signage for travelers’ guidance. The PMO also stated that the design of station buildings will be influenced by regional culture, heritage, and architecture.

The PMO said that Modi has prioritized the necessity of offering top-notch facilities at train stations, noting that he has often emphasized the provision of state-of-the-art public transportation and that railroads are the preferred means of transportation for people. The ‘Amrit Bharat Station Scheme’ was started to reconstruct 1,309 stations, it added, and it was inspired by this idea. The prime minister is laying the cornerstone for the rehabilitation of 508 stations as part of this plan.

The cost of redeveloping these stations would exceed Rs 24,470 crore. For the development of these stations as “City Centres,” with full integration of both sides of the city, master plans are now being created. The PMO said that the comprehensive vision of the city’s total urban development, centered on the train station, is what motivates this integrated approach.
