Police prevent angry farmers from accessing the location of the BJP electoral rally

Today, members from the Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee (KMSC) and Bharti Kisan Union gathered in Majitha in an effort to question BJP candidate Taranjit Singh Sandhu. They were, however, barred from approaching the site of a BJP gathering by the police.

Sarwan Singh Pandher led a group of farmers who staged a protest outside the venue while shouting anti-BJP slogans.

Among the main parties, the BJP was one whose representatives the farmer groups asked to speak with cadre to discuss their concerns.

This time, Pandher said that the farmers were being prevented from voicing their complaints over the BJP by the state’s AAP government. The farmers had come, he said, to ask polite questions.

“The farmers defied the restrictions and approached the BJP function site despite the severe restrictions that were put in place and the attempts to stop us.” A significant police presence was thereafter set up in front of Majitha-Fatehgarh Churian Road. Farmers and workers then started to protest, chanting anti-government slogans while sitting in the middle of the road, according to Pandher.

He questioned how someone who did not think it necessary to answer the people’s questions even before they were put to a vote could possibly listen to the public after holding a position of influence in the government.

According to district secretary KMSC Gurlal Singh Maan, making inquiries is a fundamental democratic prerogative, and this process would continue in the coming days.

The BJP MP for the Khadur Sabha constituency, Manjit Singh Manna, was supposed to be questioned today with district president Ranjit Singh Keller. However, Manna called off his planned presence.
