Raja Singh, a Telangana BJP MLA, was arrested for organizing an unauthorized Ram Navami demonstration

Hyderabad: T Raja Singh, a BJP MLA, was the subject of a First Information Report (FIR) filed on Thursday by Afzalgunj Police for unlawful restraint, defying commands issued by public servants, and public annoyance.

Sub-inspector P Ramakishan filed a complaint, and the Afzal Gunj Police Station opened a case against him. According to the FIR, on April 17, Raja Singh and Joginder Singh Bittu conducted a procession rally for Ram Navami without first securing the required permissions from the relevant authorities.

As the procession arrived at the Central Gurudwara in Gowliguda, Raja Singh stopped it to speak to a sizable gathering. His speech was intended to sway public opinion and win over voters. Police said that throughout the sizable gathering, firecrackers were fired off, causing a public disturbance and disobeying instructions.

At the demonstration he organized in Dhoolpet’s Akashpuri Hanuman Colony, he and his supporters also sang overtly anti-Islamic songs. The MLA has at least 85 charges filed against him and has engaged in similar behavior in prior years.

Of the eighty-five, 36 charge him with inciting hatred between two groups; 29 charge him with purposeful, malicious acts meant to incite religious sentiments; 17 charge him with intentionally insulting someone to cause a breach of peace; 13 charge him with criminal intimidation; 12 charge him with provocation with intent to cause rioting; 8 charge him with making statements meant to cause mischief in public; and 4 charge him with defiling places of worship.
