Rejected three nominations for the Assam elections’ second phase

Guwahati: According to an election official, three of the 65 candidates’ nomination papers were turned down during the examination process for the second round of voting in five Assamese parliamentary seats on April 26. In Nagaon and Karimganj, two candidates’ nominations were turned down. Nonetheless, all of the submitted papers in Diphu (ST), Darrang-Udalguri (SC), and Silchar (SC) were determined to be legitimate.

On Thursday, the last day, 65 applicants had submitted their nominations for the second round.
The official said that the nominations of the remaining 13 candidates in Nagaon were deemed genuine, but those of independent candidates Biswajit Bordoloi and Horen Bhumij of the Hamar Raj Party were rejected.
The three most well-known contenders in Nagaon are Aminul Islam of the AIUDF, Suresh Bora of the BJP, and incumbent Congress MP Prodyut Bordoloi.
Biplab Das, an independent candidate, had his candidature denied in Karimganj. Among the 24 other contenders whose applications were deemed legitimate are significant figures such as incumbent BJP member Kripanath Malla, Congressman Hafez Rashid Choudhury, and AIUDF member Sahibul Alam Choudhury.
In Darrang-Udalguri, the papers of eight other candidates, including Durga Das Boro of the Bodo Peoples’ Front (BPF), Congress candidate Madhab Rajbongshi, and incumbent BJP MP Dilip Saikia, were deemed legitimate.
All eight candidates’ nominations in Silchar were deemed to be legitimate. Among them are Radheyshyam Biswa of the TMC, Surya Kanta Sarkar of the Congress, and Parimal Suklabaidya of the BJP, who serves as a state minister.
All five nominations were deemed legitimate in Diphu (ST).
April 8 is the deadline for nomination withdrawals.
Thirty-five candidates are running for the seats of Kaziranga, Jorhat, Dibrugarh, Sonitpur, and Lakhimpur in the first round of votes, which is set for April 19.
