Relief from Above Amid Raging Rain And Flood Fury: Garuda Drones Aid NDRF in Supply Delivery

For the last several days, northern India has been suffering from heavy rains that have caused landslides and other weather-related tragedies that have taken many lives. Drones are already being used to assist people in some of the affected areas as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rainfall in the northern and eastern parts, including Himachal Pradesh, West Bengal, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya, and issued a red alert in Uttarakhand.

Garuda Aerospace, located in Tamil Nadu, informed News18 that it is assisting the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) by deploying its logistics and delivery drones in Assam and Himachal Pradesh.

Garuda Aerospace’s founder and CEO, Agnishwar Jayaprakash, went on to elaborate on the business’s present activities. “Food, water, and essential medications are delivered by drones. Garuda drones are significantly assisting NDRF rescue operations and the distribution of necessary supplements, the official said.

Speaking of the present state of affairs, he said that Garuda Aerospace has sent out two drones, each with a crew of four pilots, and that Guwahati, Assam, is now under control. “These drones are used to deliver food and medicinal supplies. The drones are, however, being deployed back and forth as necessary now that the situation is stabilized, according to Jayaprakash.

Garuda Aerospace has sent out two drones with crews of four pilots each since the situation in Himachal Pradesh is dire. According to Jayaprakash, similar activities would be carried out in this area. To guarantee safe operations, it is essential to evaluate the weather before deploying the drones. The use of drones for delivery of necessities will begin as soon as the weather is right, he added.

Experts predicted that a 5G-enabled ecosystem for drones will open up new doors of opportunity, notably in disaster management, rescue, and relief operations, when Prime Minister Narendra Modi introduced 5G telecom services in October of last year.

Drones are adaptable equipment that may be utilized in many different ways to assist during floods and periods of severe rain. They are fast and simple to deploy, and they are quite affordable to run. Drones are thus growing in popularity as a tool for disaster response.

Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) may be used to scan flooded areas to evaluate the level of damage and pinpoint places where people may be trapped in addition to providing supplies. They may also be used to locate locations at danger of flooding and monitor the progress of floods.

Drones may be used to accurately map flooded regions and document the damage. Planning for next floods and aiding in recovery efforts may both benefit from this knowledge. These may also act as linkages for communication in places where flooding has interrupted conventional communication networks. This might be utilized to coordinate rescue operations or to notify the public.

Drone use has several advantages when there are floods or strong rains. First of all, drones are perfect for usage in circumstances where regular aircraft cannot fly since they can fly in low-visibility conditions like fog or heavy rain.

Similar to helicopters, drones may fly near to the ground, enabling them to capture in-depth video of flooded regions. They may also include a range of sensors, such as thermal cameras and LiDAR scanners, that can be utilized to gather information that would be challenging or impossible to gather via traditional means.
