Schools in Delhi to Reopen Today? What We Know, so Far

The national capital’s flood damage was reduced thanks to actions taken by the Delhi administration. All recognized private, public, and nonprofit schools in the impacted regions, which include the North East, North West-A, East, North, and South East districts, were closed to pupils up until yesterday, July 18. On Monday, July 17, classes began again in the Department of Education’s (DoE) remaining districts. According to recent reports, all Delhin schools will resume operations as of today, July 19.

Schools in Delhi’s flood-affected districts were closed for classes on Monday and Tuesday due to continuing flood relief activities in schools, notably in neighborhoods near the river Yamuna. All institutions that have been impacted by the flooding were urged to set up online classrooms for pupils at this time in light of the circumstances.

The Delhi government had stated that “all schools (Govt., Govt. Aided & Private Recognized) in the affected Districts of DoE – East, North East, North West-A, North, Central & South East – shall remain closed for students on July 17th & 18th (i.e. Monday & Tuesday)” due to the likelihood that flood relief camps would continue to operate in schools in the areas bordering the river Yamuna.

To advise parents or guardians about the possibility of their children taking lessons online, the concerned heads of all relevant schools situated in the aforementioned DoE districts were given specific instructions.

After days of excessive rain in its higher catchment regions, the Yamuna River in Delhi breached its banks, flooding parts of the city and forcing hundreds of people to leave low-lying districts.

With the water level progressively dropping, the waterlogging situation in several low-lying sections of Delhi, notably the roadways from Kashmiri Gate to Majnu Ka Tila, has begun to improve. The Yamuna River’s water level is anticipated to drop below the danger threshold in the next days, according to authorities from the Delhi Flood Control Department. On July 10, Delhi’s Yamuna River overflowed the 205.33-meter danger threshold, causing major flooding and forcing more than 25,000 people to flee their homes.
