Shivpal will run for the Badaun seat, Patel will face the PM in Varanasi, and the SP lists five additional candidates

Five more candidates for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh were declared by the Samajwadi Party on Tuesday. The SP head Akhilesh Yadav’s uncle Shivpal Singh Yadav has been nominated by the party for the Badaun Lok Sabha constituency, while Surendra Singh Patel has been nominated for the Varanasi seat.

With the most recent announcement, there are 32 SP candidates overall among the three lists that have been made public so far. The first list of 16 candidates was made public on January 30, and on Monday, 11 more candidates—among them the older brother of mafia don Mukhtar Ansari, Afzal Ansari—were announced. Afzal Ansari has been nominated by the party for the Ghazipur Lok Sabha constituency.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will face Varanasi native Surendra Singh Patel on the new list. However, in Badaun, where Swami Prasad Maurya’s daughter Sanghamitra, a BJP MP, is now the representative, Shivpal Singh Yadav has taken Dharmendra Yadav’s seat.

Iqra Gasan from Kairana, Shivpal Singh Yadav from Badaun, Praveen Singh Aron from Bareilly, Ajendra Singh Rajput from Hamirpur, and Surendra Singh Patel from Varanasi are among the candidates included in the most recent list, which was made public on Tuesday.

The party has designated Dharmendra Yadav as the in-charge of the Kannauj and Azamgarh seats, and Mehboob Ali and Ram Avtar Saini as co-in-charges of the Amroha seat. Manoj Choudhury has been appointed by the party to oversee the Baghpat seat.

Akhilesh Yadav may run from both Kannauj and Azamgarh seats, according to the decision to designate Dharmendra Yadav as the in-charge of both seats.

However, it is understood that negotiations are still going on despite rumors of a possible rupture in the pre-election coalition between the Congress and the SP. According to prior media reports, the Congress was given 17 seats by the SP, despite its desire for at least four additional seats.
