Soumya Vishwanathan’s mother on the four murderers: “Don’t want death penalty for them”

Soumya Vishwanathan’s mother, Madhavi Vishwanathan, dropped her head in her hands as the judge read the court’s decision on the five men accused of killing Soumya Vishwanathan 15 years ago.

The court found four individuals guilty of the murder of a 26-year-old TV journalist who was shot dead on her way home from work in Vasant Kunj on September 30, 2008: Ravi Kapoor, Amit Shukla, Ajay Kumar, and Baljeet Malik. Ajay Sethi, their fifth conspirator, was found guilty of receiving stolen goods. Sethi has been found guilty in accordance with the judgment under Sections 411 of the IPC and 3(2) and 3(5) of the Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act.

“We’ve been at war for fifteen years… We have lost our daughter, yet it’s a relief,” Madhavi Vishwanathan told HT.

The court set October 26 as the day for sentence.

We disagree with the death penalty. She said that the sentence they are praying for is life in jail, saying, “We want them to suffer what we are suffering.

MK The father of Soumya, Vishwanathan, stated: “There’s no happiness… My daughter will never come back to me.

Currently residing in Nairobi, Madhavi’s oldest daughter recalls how her husband was certain that the four would be found guilty today.

For months, investigators were unable to solve Soumya Vishwanathan’s murder. The discovery was made during their investigation into Jigisha Ghosh’s murders in March 2009. The same three guys, according to the Delhi Police, are suspected of also killing journalist Soumya Vishwanathan.
