Staff shortage at Udhampur school, lack of basic infrastructure, and poor study results

Pupils of Government Middle School in Panchari, Udhampur’s Halla neighborhood have been grumbling about the school’s lack of essential amenities.

Locals claim that the school doesn’t even have a working water connection, which poses serious issues for the pupils. The school is experiencing a staffing shortage since there are only two instructors assigned to every 36 kids.

A citizen named Suram Singh said that this “creates an overcrowded and under-resourced learning environment, hindering the quality of education that students receive here.”

The status of the school building is equally appalling. It is not finished, and there are several obvious design flaws. The school has a single operational classroom.

A community elder named Samsher Singh said that the building is now hazardous because of fractures that had appeared. “The building’s poor state and inadequate amenities have resulted in a sharp drop in student enrollment. There are presently just 36 pupils enrolled in the school, down from 100 years ago, he added.

Locals have often pleaded with the government to step in and take immediate action to resolve these problems. Geetu Bangotra, the Chief Education Officer, was not reachable for comment.
