Students at Gaddi oppose the idea to remove PhD seat reservations

The Gaddi Student Welfare Association unit at the Himachal Pradesh institution has requested that the institution rescind its decision to remove PhD seats from the Department of Commerce.

Additionally, the group urged that the “illegal” admissions procedure to the PhD program in the relevant department be stopped immediately. In addition to demanding the dismissal of the dean of studies and chair of the department of commerce, it also requested that admissions to the university be advertised to students belonging to the Scheduled Tribe category.

Today, a group from the organization met with Pro-Vice-Chancellor Rajendra Verma in this location and presented a document addressing the matter. They were given the assurance by the Pro-VC that the case would be looked into openly.

In a press release, Association President Karthik said that a notice for admission to the Department of Commerce’s PhD program was just been released. The advertising said that three seats were designated for General category students and that one seat each was allotted to ST, Person with Disability, and Scheduled Caste students. But because no ST student application was submitted, the ST seat was converted to a General category seat.

“The UGC rules do not provide a mechanism for the Scheduled Tribes to have their seats changed. However, he claimed that the Commerce Department Chairperson had moved the ST-reserved seats to the General category in cooperation with the Dean of Studies.

The group threatened to stage a demonstration if the university administration did not act on this issue right now.
